We frequently have trouble uncleating the main sheet in winds over 15 knts. It takes a big kick to release that main sheet cleat.
I have been thinking that maybe a Spinlock PX cleat would be easier to release. These are used on J105s.
Also has anyone changed the main sheet rigging to use a barney post style to replace the cleat on the moving traveller.
Any ideas would be appreciated. The main sheet is really tough on windy days.

We used a spin lock cleat on a melges 24 and i didn't like it; std harken cleats worked much better. I am also thinking of going to a cleat mounted on harken's swivel base similar to the j-24 set up. In addition to a better angle this will give more purchase.
The only thing worse than the mainsheet cleat is the traveler set up. I'm hoping i can fix this with the harken traveler set up (with cleats on the car) but i don't know if it will fit in the recesses in the cockpit yet. FYI, i race PHRF only so class rules in this are not a factor.

I use a Harken self tacking traveller on the L28. Works great. Occassionally gets caught up in the traveller recess at the end of the track and chips up the gel coat. My mainsheet is a 6:1 and 3:1 double mainsheet with two cams at the bottom block. Pull both sheets at once: 3:1, just one gives you 6:1. Works like a charm!
