My foredeck man was having problems jibing in gusty stong winds (20-25 Kts). If any of you guys have any tips on how you handle jibes and foredeck procedures would appreciate advice. On our jibes foredeck releases the pole and tries to new guy before relasing. old guy. Every time he does this the boat rounds up and gets out of control. Our speed during these manuovers is about 10 kts plus or minus a half knot. We also bent a new rudder we got last year - now it's a canting rudder. Back to the old rudder for now.

Given enough wind, you're almost guaranteed to wipe out. Try this instead;
This is essentially the technique we use on Convictus without worry up until about 25 to 30 knots. The trick is to completely remove the pole and flatten out the bottom of the chute in order to keep it under control. Hope this helps...happy sailing!!
