Currently my boat is rigged stock, with all halyards exiting the mast at the bottom.  I would like to re-run the spin halyard so that it exits on the side of the mast, 6 or so feet from the deck, so that the halyard can be "jumpped" from the mast.  I plan on cutting the hole, putting in a standard exit plate, and mounting a single cam cleat undertheath it.

I think this is a no brainer but if any body can think of anything I should watch out for I would apreciate it.

Mine has been rigged that way since before I owned the boat. Your idea will work perfectly. Good luck, always fun cutting holes in boats above and below the waterline.
