We recently replaced our lifelines because the plastic coating was cracked in locations. We replaced them with uncoated 1x19 SS wire (slightly larger dia. than 1/8" so it's easier on the hands). Note that SS can experience crevice corrosion wherever the plastic coating ends, even at the terminals of new lifelines. I recommend the class rules be ammended to allow uncoated lifelines to avoid this situation.

yep thats one of those things we could probably look at. I'm in freshwater and never seen any corrosion but I regularly see broken strands of wire where the wire passes thru the aft stanchion.....at least on the racing boats where the lifelines do get a workout.....this is what forces lifeline replacement in freshwater
