Remove the two pieces and have a machine shop weld it back together. They can do amazing repairs on alum castings. You just have to find out who does it best in your area.

Replacing the collar is quite a job. The bottom of the mast needs to be stripped clean it seems. Is bonding, glue, epoxy a reasonable alternative?

You are correct the mast has to be stripped of all parts under the spreader casting to re-install it correctly. If you neglect to do this you will lose your mast and these masts as they are are no longer available so you'll end up getting something else that has completely different bend characteristics. EB Spars built these masts and can also advise you. They are still in business and the owner still races a Laser 28.

Besides this should be insured so any mast maker should be able to do this job properly and get paid in full by your insurer.
