We bent (folded actually) our pole this past season and one winter project is to replace it now. West Marine has pole blanks at approx. $250 usd. in 6063- t6 tubing. Where can I obtain that tubing without West Marine's exhorbitant mark-up? Exactly how long is the pole tube? Is 6063 -t6 greatly diferrent in structural properties than 6061-t6 (available nearby at $65 usd). Any input would be appreciated, Thanks

6061-T6 is fine.....if u bury a 6063 in the water it'll still bend, so cheapest is fine except that it should be anodized to avoid corrosion. Total pole length incl ends is 3.45 meters or 11.32FT

Thanks Bill, We stowed the pole after a deep and fast heavy air run. Boom was against the lowers and pole stowed with the lowers between pole and boom. New guy in cockpit was trimming main after rounding and when he was too slow, I grabbed the sheet and pullled like hell. It just shows you that mistakes are a team effort and I am glad that 6061 will do the trick so the mistake is a $65 lesson and not a $250 lesson WarBird |
