Dave, That is correct. The bottom of the sail is not in the extrusion. It does not matter and you usually have to cut a piece of the luff tape off the sail so you don't have to pull the entire sail through the pre-freed. Try it first and you will see how easy it is. John Davis Peggy Sue |

Has anyone installed a tuff luff on their Laser 28? My boat came with a roller furler with an aluminium foil. I am replacing it with a tuff luff. I did all the measurements per the tuff luff instructions, but it seems that the luff tape on the sail will protrude about 2 feet below the bottom of the tuff luff. The directions say to measure 42 inches up the forestay from the deck. This is the point where the bottom of the tuff luff will be. My luff tape starts at about 1 foot above the deck up the forestay. This would mean that my luff tape would protrude about 2.5 feet from the bottom of the tuff luff. I am thinking about making the tuff luff a little longer than the directions call for, so that I don't have so much luff tape extending beyond the bottom of the tuff luff. |
